Tea master Edgar Obare partially hang his work boots on Instagram and moved to telegram early this year after losing two of his accounts.
His first account was deactivated in August last year after he did a daring exposè of the wash wash cartel.
Months later, Edgar Obare proceeded to use his backup account which was disabled in January this year. It was at that point that he resolved to try out telegram seeing that Instagram was being consistently hostile and limiting.
A lot of local celebrities celebrated the deactivation of Edgar Obare’s accounts because of how daring he had become. Local artist KRG the Don was among the first to celebrate as he claimed to have made ‘Edgar Obare disappear’. I had said I will delete BNNKE do this planet. And they thought I was joking. In an unanticipated move, Edgar Obare moved his ‘tea’ to telegram. His ardent fans quickly followed him and adjusted even though quite a good number complained severally that the tea no longer ‘slapped’ as it did on Instagram. Sooner or later they were later to adjust and so did scammers.
No sooner had the tea master joined telegram than scammers began creating fake pages to extort money from innocent tea lovers.
One particular notorious scammer created fake pages impersonating the original BNN accounts (BNN BASIC and BNN Premium). He would then proceed to share a till number through which members would pay for their subscriptions. Unsuspecting tea lovers would fall into the trap losing hundreds of coins.
Despite Edgar Obare’s efforts to report the scammer to telegram and having the accounts blocked, the scammer identified as Simon Kariuki created new pages.
Simon Kariuki went ahead to plagiarize and reshare all contact shared by Edgar Obare. As if that was not enough, the young man would blackmail high-profile personalities pretending to be Edgar. A fan reached out to Edgar with personal details of Simon including his phone number, real face and his place of residence. A move that caused him to apologize immediately.

Reaching out to the tea master, Samuel Kariuki apologized for impersonating Edgar Obare and requested to be allowed to subscribe to his channels.
I have deleted my fake accounts, can I subscribe to your accounts? He posed. Also please delete my picture and phone numbers, people add insulting me on WhatsApp until I have gotten depressed. Forgive me, please. He begged.
He went ahead to ask Edgar not to post his messages to his fans. So that they could stop sending him messages of hate. He also disclosed that he was deleting his telegram account and asked Edgar to reach out to him to get help on how to access restricted content. Simon also bragged to be a very sharp person claiming that no one can hack him. ‘Nimeparara lakini akili yangu an ujuzi wangu unepita kiwango cha binadamu wa kawaida’ he said.
The scammer went ahead to request Edgar to hook him up with computer jobs. And to ask his followers to grant him jobs too where he offered to do a great job.
Edgar has now asked his fans through a poll whether Simon deserves forgiveness or not. What do you think?
