Mercy Tarus, a victim of the Uasin Gishu scholarship scam, has slammed the county government for its inaction. She denounced the leaders’ silence on the embezzled Canadian and Finland scholarship funds. Tarus specifically pointed fingers at Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, Deputy John Barorot, and Senator Jackson Mandago.

Mercy Tarus stated.

Between 2021 and 2022, parents contributed over Sh957 million to secure learning opportunities for 150 students abroad. Despite promises, the Uasin Gishu government failed to deliver the pledged airlift program.

Where did the Scholarship Saga Money Go?

Parents affected by the Uasin Gishu education issue deposited funds into a Trust Scholarship bank account. Citizen TV Official states that Meshack Rono, Joseph Maritim, and Joshua Lelei signed the account. The trio withdrew money throughout 2022 for unintended purposes.

Certain parents sold vehicles and land to finance their children’s overseas studies. The Uasin Gishu County Government’s failure to honor the agreement is upsetting. In a viral video, Mercy Tarus berates the County bosses.

“You are very mean with the truth, you keep lying and smile at us, with a very smooth tongue and a very soft face that looks like it’s very innocent, but you keep on lying and lying.”

She painfully expressed.

Nearly a year later, the scholarship saga remains unresolved, with no proposed solution in sight. The Uasin Gishu County Government is yet to refund the disgruntled parents. And Mercy Tarus revealed that only part of the contribution is accounted for.

“On the Uasin Gishu-Canada issue, some money-Sh600,000 was paid to school. while Sh382,000 is unaccounted for.

She revealed.

The Kabarak University alumna has since written to President William Ruto urging him to check into the matter.
