The Walker Town 2024 Edition at Laureate Gardens, Kasarani was a major disappointment for attendees who had high hopes for the much-hyped event.
Concert-goers parted with Ksh. 4,000 for each day of Walker Town, with a Weekend Pass costing Ksh. 7,000. VIP tickets for Day 1 and Day 2 were priced at Ksh. 15,000.
On Saturday, concert-goers braved heavy rain to see Nigerian superstar Rema perform, but their experience was marred by rampant theft, including robbery and pickpocketing.
Also, there was a stampede caused by ticketless individuals breaching security and entering the venue.
Walker Town Day 2 Flop
Sunday was also chaotic! First, there was heavy rainfall. And then there were technical issues. Nyashinski was a no-show while headliner Lauryn Hill didn’t take the stage until 3 a.m. on Monday.
Walker Town Organizers issued a statement explaining the challenges:
“Despite our best efforts, unforeseen technical challenges—particularly due to the rain and other conditions—affected our sound system, causing significant delays. This resulted in the delayed performance by Miss Lauryn Hill and, regrettably, the cancellation of our brand partner Nyashinski’s performance, which deeply impacted the overall festival experience,”
In an attempt to address the backlash, event organizers have issued a public apology and committed to providing full refunds to Day Two ticket holders.
“We sincerely apologize to all our valued festival goers, suppliers, artistes, and stakeholders for the disruptions experienced during day two of the WalkerTown festival. In light of these circumstances, we will be issuing a 100% refund to all ticket holders for Day Two of the WalkerTown 2024 Festival within the next two weeks. This is a reflection of our commitment to fairness and respect for the trust you placed in us,”
