Joy, jubilation, and love filled the air as Mathira MP Eric Wamumbi wed Murang’a Women Rep Betty Maina. Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua served as the chief dowry negotiator. And Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro led the groom’s entourage. President William Ruto attended as the chief guest.
“Congratulations, Betty and Eric, on your union. May your journey be filled with love, joy, and countless shared moments. I wish you a lifetime of happiness that continues to grow stronger with each passing day.”
William Ruto remarked.
The guest list in the colorful wedding defied political viewpoints. In attendance were ODM’s Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor (Jalang’o). And Jubilee Party’s Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi. This eclectic gathering also included Mumias East MP Peter Salasya. And Mwala MP Vincent Musyoka with South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro.

Riggy G and Karen Nyamu Dance Away
Music is part of any celebrations and this wedding was no different. But, Deputy President Gachagua (Riggy G) and nominated senator Karen Nyamu stole the show. The two danced away to the joy of onlookers. Musician Samidoh accompanied Karen Nyamu. The three were dressed in brown Kikuyu traditional regalia. And so was the groom and the rest of his party.

The Love Story
Eric Wamumbi and Betty Maina met in 2021. He took a liking to the women representative. Wamumbi described Betty as “fine” and that “she had everything I wanted in a wife.” The couple then fell in love during the August 2022 elections campaign. Ms. Maina publicly announced their relationship after the elections. She wished Wamumbi a happy 35th birthday via Facebook.
“35 years is a great achievement. Live long my love.”
Betty Maina stated on Facebook.
Betty Maina was a director at the Athi Water Development Agency. Eric Wamumbi served as Konyu ward MCA. He won the MP position that DP Rigathi Gachagua had before President Ruto chose him as a running mate.
Love after Loss
Both Eric Wamumbi and Betty Maina experienced loss before finding love in each other. Wamumbi tragically lost his wife Catherina Nyambura in 2020. A local discovered her body at Hohwe dam along the Nyeri-Karatina road on May 25, 2020. The couple married in 2015 and shared two children. Authorities questioned Wamumbi over the death. But autopsy results revealed no physical injuries.

Meanwhile, Betty Maina’s marriage ended. She shares two children with her ex. She attributed the breakup to rushing into things. Ms Maina, however, maintains that they are still in good terms.
