WAITITU MISSING IN COURT, LAWYER SAYS HE TESTED POSITIVE FOR CORONA VIRUS

Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu fails to appear in court. So his case was suspended.

The lawyer presenting him John Swaka told the court that Waititu tested positive for covid-19.

We are not ready to proceed. Waititu has been unwell since last week. And I’m informed that he exhibited symptoms and was directed to take the rest which confirmed the position of covid 19. Before he can mingle up with the public, he was asked to isolate himself.

Said Swaka

Magistrate Thomas Nzioki who was handling the trial of the governor, his wife, and eight others postponed the matter till October 26th.

So his lawyer requested for an adjournment to enable Waititu to seek medical help and recover. As a result, Magistrate Nzioki allowed the application upon going through medical documents which supported claims of his illness

All the other accused including his wife were present in court

Ferdinand Waititu had been charged alongside several others over Ksh. 510 million fraud.

On July 29, 2019, Waititu was charged with fraud, conflict of interest, dealing with suspected property, abuse of office, and money laundering.

As a result, the Kiambu Country Assembly later impeached the governor. In a verdict that was upheld by the Senate in January 2020.

These Magistrate Nzioki ordered state counsel Nicholas Mutuku to do a background check on the authenticity of the results.

The case will be heard in November.

Kenyans were quick to react in regard to Waititu’s illness.
