The mystery surrounding the identity of the lady who drowned together with a businessman at Juja’s Titanic Dam in Kiambu on January 17 has been unravelled.

A family from Mathioya in Murang’a county on Thursday identified the body at City Mortuary as that of their daughter Fridah Warau Kamuyu. The body which had been lying at the morgue since the day of the tragic incident had been marked as unknown. Ms Fridah Warau Kamuyu, 22, who recently graduated from university, was the lady in the motor vehicle alongside Tirus Maina Gikonyo, 39, who was identified two days later.

The accident

The man and woman died on Jan 17th night after a car they were in plunged into a dam at Titanic Area in Juja, Kiambu County. According to the locals, the two were making merry in the car that was parked a few meters from the dam and at around 7.30 pm, they heard people screaming for help.

“I heard a woman screaming, she was in the dam trying to swim, trying to save herself but unfortunately there were no divers around. After the car plunged into the dam the woman managed to get out of the vehicle through the windows,” a resident of the area reported.

The woman, who was the first to be retrieved from the dam, could not be immediately identified since she had no identification documents in her possession. The man was identified by his family soon after the vehicle was retrieved from the water and images that clearly showed the car’s registration number were shared in the media.

Prior to the identification of the deceased woman, the man’s wife, Margaret Kiiru, had appealed to members of the public to help her trace the family of the lady who died alongside her husband in order to have closure.
