All primary and secondary school teachers will be expected to resume their respective schools on Monday, September 28th. This will enable them to prepare for the reopening of schools.

This has come months after schools were shut down due to the spread of coronavirus. And a lot of uncertainty has been expressed in regards to when schools will resume.

About a month ago, the Education CS had hinted that schools may resume before January. See the article.

Some parents of school-going children had also threatened to go to court if schools did not resume immediately. See article.

The Education Response Committee had recommended that schools reopen in October.

But the CS of Education, professor George Magoha said that the recommendations need to be looked into by a larger committee. Since it is not up to him to schedule the reopening dates. So after the meeting, the official reopening dates of schools will be communicated.

Standard seven and eight pupils as well as form three and form four candidates will be expected at school first.

And the rest of the students and pupils will report later. (in a couple of weeks).

Since the normal learning program was disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic, the second term syllabus will be covered in two months, October to November. And as a result, the third term syllabus will be covered from January to March.

The candidates will sit for their national exams in April 2021.

Magoha also suggested that some classes will be covered outside. So as to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

However, the teachers will also be directed on how to cover the syllabus effectively.
