President of Tanzania John Pombe Magufuli is dead.
His death was announced on Wednesday night by Vice President Samia Hassan Suluhu.
After several weeks of speculation about Magufuli’s health, it has been made official that he is dead.
Magufuli had last been seen in public on February 27th as he swore in the new Chief Secretary at State House in Dar es Salaam. And he appeared to be in good shape and health.
Magufuli has been admitted to Jakaya Kikwete on March 6th. But was later discharged.
The deceased was rushed to the hospital again on March 14th after feeling unwell.
As a result, vice president Samia Suluhu takes over the remaining part of the term.
So Samia becomes the first female president of Tanzania and the first female head of state in the East African Community.
Samia announced that the country would get into a fourteen-day period of mourning Magufuli. And for burial preparations.
