Former Migori Governor Okoth Obado and his personal aides Micheal Oyamo and Caspal Obiero are currently facing trial over the murder of Sharon and her unborn baby.

The three and others are accused of committing the crime on September 3, 2018, in Owade, Homa Bay County.

A prosecution witness on Tuesday narrated how the late Rongo University student Sharon Otieno demanded a Sh25 million house. And another Sh5 million for upkeep from Migori governor Okoth Obado.

Former Homa Bay county MCA, Lawrence Mule, who was testifying in the murder case against Obado, revealed that the deceased desired to live a glamorous life after getting pregnant for the former governor.

The late Rongo University student Sharon Otieno had demanded a Sh25 Million house in Nairobi or Kisumu from former Migori Governor Okoth Obado before she met her death in September 2018.

The ex-MCA, Lawrence Mule, told trial Judge Cecilia Githua that Sharon also wanted a good car equal to that of a governor’s wife and Sh5 million for upkeep.

The journalist

Mule narrated how he met Sharon at a hotel in Homa Bay in July 2018 while he was having tea.

“I was taking my tea, when a lady came to my table and introduced herself as Sharon… She wanted some assistance from me saying she knew me as an MCA. She told me she was a little sick and she requested for Sh5,000 from me… I told her I could not manage that amount of money but I would get her something the next day… From my assessment, she looked six months pregnant,” Mule told the court.


Mule told further said that he met Sharon the next day and gave her Sh1,500. Sharon after receiving the money asked him if he knew any journalist to which he responded that he knew many.

She said she needed money for upkeep and routine clinic checkups and because of that desperation she wanted a media person.

He testified that the late Sharon had told him that her relationship with governor had gone sour.

The witness told the court that Sharon had met the media person who in turn proceed to meet the governor to convey her concerns.

He stated said that when he met Sharon the governor had indicated that they have a meeting to sought out the issue.

Mule later learned that the journalist and Sharon were abducted in a hotel in Rongo and learned from her mother that the media person escaped but she was missing.

The hearing resumes next Tuesday.
