SAMIA SULUHU SWORN IN AS TANZANIA’S PRESIDENT

Former Tanzania’s Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan has been sworn in as the president.

Samia has become the sixth President of the United Republic of Tanzania. This is after the death of their former President John Pombe Magufuli.

Suluhu was sworn in earlier today Friday at 10:00 am at State House Dar es Salaam.

So Samia becomes the first female president in Tanzania. And the first female head of state in the East African Community.

Ms. Hassan first joined politics in the year 2000 when she was elected to the Zanzibar House of Representatives holding a special seat.

She was also reappointed to the same seat five years later. And in 2010, she went to the national Assembly when she won the Makunduchi Parliamentary seat.

The late John Pombe Magufuli chose her as his running mate thus making her the first female running mate in the prominent party. And the first female vice president of Tanzania.
