Popular activist Richard Otieno, known as “Molo President,” was found dead on January 17, 2025.
The father of two was found murdered in cold blood, outside the gate of his rented apartment in Molo, and just 200 meters from Elbugon Police Station.
Otieno, was a strong critic of Molo MP Kuria Kimani and often spoke out against local leaders. He played a key role in organizing the June 2024 Finance Bill protests.

His activism earned him respect, but also made him a target for those who disagreed with him.
And it seems, his enemies have silenced him for good.
Final Moments Leading to the Brutal Murder of Richard Otieno
On the night of his murder, Otieno, a father of two, had attended a local football game in Elburgon.
After the match, he took a boda boda back home.
Everything seemed normal until he reached near his house, at around midnight.
But, after getting off the motorcycle, Otieno was attacked by unknown assailants.
They struck him in the head with an axe, killing him instantly.
This violent attack has left many in the community reeling.

Richard Otieno was Attacked Twice Before
Otieno had been targeted twice before. And he had often spoken out about threats he received due to his activism.
Just two months earlier, he was assaulted with a blunt object to the head. He sought treatment for his injuries and reported the matter to the police station.
His lawyer, Rosalinda Wamaitha, said this was the third time Otieno had been attacked, and he had lived in constant fear for his life.
Following his death, protests broke out in Molo.
On Sunday, January 19, residents blocked Njoro-Molo Road with boulders, set fires, and stormed the morgue where Otieno’s body was held.
They paraded his body, wrapped in white sheets, through the streets before marching to the home of Molo MP Kuria Kimani.
Kimani has denied any involvement, calling for swift investigations to find those responsible.
