An autopsy report revealed the cause of death for Elizabeth Githigi, a preacher based in Nakuru, who died at the home of singer Dishon Mirugi in Kahawa West.

An autopsy was conducted at the Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital, revealing that Elizabeth Githigi died due to a lack of oxygen caused by pressure on her neck. However, it was not clear whether it was a case of strangulation as more toxicological tests are underway.

Esther Mugure, the late Githigi’s sister, revealed that she had raised concerns about her safety in December as she had received threats from Mirugi. Mugure added that her sister was following up on Sh700,000 she had lent to the musician to build his church.

The Mysterious Death

Elizabeth Wanjiru Githinji, a Nakuru-based pastor, travelled to Kasarani, Nairobi on Saturday, March 18, to iron out some differences with a local gospel artiste. This, however, would be her final journey as she was found dead hours later.

According to a police report filed at the Kahawa West Police Station in Kasarani Sub-County in Nairobi, the gospel musician claimed to have instructed her to wash his clothes as he left to attend to some businesses along Thika Road.

The artist reportedly reached out to Githinji who did not respond to his calls.  The police report indicated that the musician returned to his house, only to find the pastor hanging from a bed sheet.

The gospel artist is reported to have carried the body inside his vehicle to Jacaranda Maternity Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to the police report, the musician took the body from the hospital to Kahawa West police station. Her body was escorted by police officers to Kenyatta University Teaching, Research and Referral Hospital (KUTRRH).

The gospel artist on Sunday, March 19, recorded a statement at the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road as police sought to establish the events that led to the pastor’s demise.

The detectives also visited the musician’s home in a bid to collect samples and evidence that could give possible leads into the probe

Mirugi was arraigned in court, and investigating officers requested that he be detained as they proceed with investigations.
