NAIROBI RESIDENTS CAN NOW ACCESS MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

Looks like finally, mental health is slowly becoming a top priority for citizens. Because the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) has announceD that Nairobians will be able to access mental health and psychological support services.

The services which include psychotherapy and counseling, mental wellness clinic, psychiatry, school mental health, community mental health, child and adolescents mental health assessments, as well as epilepsy clinics will be offered in thirty two city health facilities.

For so long Kenyans have been suffering from mental health issues which were later exacerbated by the effects of the corona virus. And therefore this is such an amazing initiative.

Mental health facilities

So the facilities offering these services include all the Level 4 hospitals; Mbagathi Hospital in Lang’ata, Mutuini Hospital in Dagoretti South, Mama Lucy Hospital in Embakasi West and Pumwani Maternity Hospital in Kamukunji.

Other health centres include;

●Embakasi East
●Soweto-Kayole
●Dandora II
●Kariobangi North
●Kasarani
●Lunga Lunga
●Makadara
●Jericho
●Kibera Amref
●Kibera DO
●Waithaka
●Uthiru-Muthua
●Mathare North
●Kahawa West
●Kangemi
●Westlands
●Mji wa Huruma dispensary
●Lower Kabete
●Kayole II
●Umoja
●Ngara Health Center
●Ngara Methadone Clinic
●Ngara Child-Friendly Clinic- provides child and adolescents’ mental health assessment services between Monday and Friday.

Community units in Embakasi East, Westlands, Makadara and Ruaraka will also supplement the above listed centres in offering community mental health services.

The Nairobi Metropolitan Services, NMS has consequently commenced the recruitment of psychiatrists and mental health experts to be deployed across the health facilities in the county.
