Mombasa County Executive Committee (CEC) Member of Lands Mohamed Hussein, has been arrested in connection with the alleged abduction and gang rape of 25-year-old blogger Bruce John Kajira. Hussein is Governor Abdulswamad Nassir’s right-hand man.
According to reports, Bruce Kajira had recently posted a critical video on TikTok about the Mombasa County government. Shortly after, on September 12, he was abducted by a group of approximately 20 county officers from his home in Bamburi.
Mombasa Blogger Abduction and Sodomy
Kajira recounts that the attackers broke into his home and demanded he accompany them to an undisclosed location to apologize for his comments. They assured him he would be returned home later, but that promise was never fulfilled.
Instead, the blogger was taken to a hotel and forced into a private vehicle. He described being bound and wrapped in a sack.
Once in the Miritini area, he claims he was assaulted and sodomized by two individuals who were not part of the initial group. During the assault, they interrogated him about his criticisms of the county government.
Kajira was eventually dumped near the Mwakirunge dumpsite.
Fortunately, a Good Samaritan found him after several hours of questioning and helped him seek assistance. He later reported the incident to the Bamburi Police Station.
The arrest of Mohamed Hussein took place while he was having lunch with a colleague at a restaurant in the Central Business District. He is expected to be arraigned at the Shanzu Law Court.
Speaking on the issue, Nyali MP Mohammed Jicho Pevu condemned the horrific abuse of power by officials and the depravity shown by those responsible for the heinous act. He urged the DCI and the ODPP to thoroughly investigate the matter and ensure justice is served.
Jicho Pevu also warned against attempts to downplay the issue and assured the public that Mombasa leaders are closely monitoring the situation. He called the act against Bruce “unreligious, unconstitutional, and inhumane.”
