US-based Kenyan-born actress, Lupita Nyong’o, made headlines when she decided to end her relationship with Selema Masekela, 52. This breakup comes barely one year since the two went Instagram official during December of 2022.
The Reason for the Breakup
So, what could have led Lupita Nyong’o to make the bold decision to end this relationship? While the reason for the breakup isn’t exactly clear, the 42-year-old actress hinted at a betrayal on the boyfriend’s part. Lupita took to Instagram and wrote:
“At this moment, it is necessary for me to share a personal truth and publicly dissociate myself from someone I can no longer trust… I find myself in a season of heartbreak because of a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception.”
She wrote in part.

Lupita admitted that a part of her waited to tell anyone until she had moved past the breakup. Yet, she understood that opening up about her experience was part of the healing process.
“I am tempted to run into the shadows and hide, only to return to the light when I have regained my strength enough for me to say, “Whatever, my life is better this way.” But I am reminded that the magnitude of the pain I am feeling is equal to the measure of my capacity for love. And so, I am choosing to face the pain, cultivating the courage to meet my life exactly as it is, and trusting that this too shall pass.”
