Ex-rugby player Alex Olaba was arrested last night at Nairobi West where he was meeting an undercover detective to plot the murder of a witness.
Alex is facing gang rape accusations. After being charged with gangraping a woman at an apartment in Highrise.
The events as narrated by the victim began at a party. And later Alex and another player lured her to their house where they raped her in turns. Because she was in and out of consciousness.
The lady became pregnant. But Olaba and his co-accused- Wanyama insisted that the sexcapade was mutually agreed upon.
As a result, Olaba and his co-accused, Frank Wanyama, were in August 2019 sentenced to 15 years in jail each for gang-rape by the magistrate’s court in Nairobi.
So yesterday, Olaba was on a mission. He was arrested at Madaraka Estate while attending a meeting whose main purpose was to eliminate a key witness in his case.
The police also recovered two mobile phones from Alex. And they are undergoing forensic analysis to determine if there were other partners in the crime.
He appeared before the principal magistrate on Friday morning.
According to the investigating officer, Alex made several attempts to contact key witnesses in the case. So as to divert its outcome.
Olaba was also claimed to have missed th last court appearance. And lied that he was in Bungoma.
His lawyer claimed that he has a medical condition and thus he should be transferred to a less crowded police station.
The court, however, stated that the prosecution had enough reasons to detain him. And he therefore will be detained at Kilimani Police station for seven days as investigations continue.
