The world football governing body, Fifa, has lifted Kenya’s suspension from international competitions.

“The Bureau of the Council decided on 25 November 2022 to lift the suspension of FKF with immediate effect,” the letter read in part.

The lift has come days after Sports CS Ababu Namwamba was spotted hanging out with FIFA President Gianni Infantino in Qatar.

Ababu shared photos of his meeting with the head honcho as the country awaits further directions on the ban placed by the world governing body that has been in effect for close to a year now.

The ban

Kenya was banned on February 24th this year following the then Sports CS Amin Mohamed’s decision to remove the Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa from office. FIFA cited government interference and placed an indefinite suspension on the country. See article.

The world football governing body asked the Kenyan government to repeal the decision to disband Football Kenya Federation. And to install a caretaker committee or the country will remain in the cold indefinitely.

Moving forward

In a letter from Secretary-General Fatma Samoura to FKF CEO Barry Otieno, a delegation comprising FIFA and CAF will be deployed to Kenya to define the next steps.

“We would like to inform you that the situation of the FKF was submitted to the Bureau of Fifa Council for consideration and decision on 25 November 2022,” FIFA Secretary-General Fatma Samoura said in a statement.

“On this occasion, the Bureau was informed of the official letter dated 4 November 2022 from the FKF General Secretary Barry Otieno to Fifa confirming that the Kenyan government as represented by the newly appointed Cabinet Secretary for Sports, the Hon. Ababu Namwamba reinstated the FKF Executive committee with immediate effect.”
