Comedian Eddie Butita will accompany President William Ruto on an official state visit to the United States. Butita shared his excitement on social media, expressing his gratitude for this unique opportunity.
“Leaving for the USA today. Thank you His Excellency President William Samoei Ruto for choosing me to accompany you to the United States of America State Visit hosted by the USA President His Excellency President Joe Biden,” Butita announced.
Highlighting the significance of his inclusion, Butita added, “The fact that I’m part of the Head of State’s delegation is a clear sign and we are happy that the creative industry is part of the conversations we are going to have during this trip.”
President Ruto’s visit, scheduled for May 21, 2024, includes meetings with top Hollywood stars, with Butita representing Kenya’s Creative Economy.
Tyler Perry Studios Visit
Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’oei disclosed that the delegation will visit Tyler Perry Studios and meet with Tyler Perry.
Sing’oei explained, “In the context of this visit, the President will visit Tyler Perry Studios, he will meet with Tyler Perry, several players in the Hollywood ecosystem, and be able to have a conversation with them about how they can work together with Kenya to unlock the potential of film.”
Additionally, President Ruto will attend a major diaspora event in Atlanta.
Highlighting the importance of this engagement, Sing’oei stated, “It will be a culmination of a huge diaspora event. As you know, we have a significant diaspora in the Atlanta area. They will have a mega conversation around diaspora investment and remittances and ways the diaspora can plug into our economy.”
This visit seeks to strengthen the ties between Kenya’s creative industry and the global entertainment sector. And to showcase the country’s talent internationally.
