Citizen TV digital has apologized for airing a video depicting Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata attending state proceedings virtually while drunk.

On Tuesday afternoon, Kangata attended a senate meeting virtually. And there were allegations that he was drunk and in a popular den called Sabina Joy. While in deed the senator attempted to attend the session virtually from his office which is within Parliament Buildings but had technical problems, forcing him to move to the main Chambers.

The video that was doing rounds showed Kang’ata struggling to attend the meeting virtually to which the speaker said he was not allowed by the House rules to make submissions from his location.

Irungu said that he was probably invisible because he was reading the statement. Mr. Speaker, I am online and my video is on. I don’t know maybe because I am reading the statement,” he said.

The senator later tweeted saying that he has never tasted alcohol in his life. Kieleweke bloggers- no single drop of alcohol has ever passed via my mouth . That voice insertion into my today’s senate contribution is fake and false. The true question that I asked in Senate was about Muranga Farmers unpaid milk delivered to County Factory. Read his tweet.

And he even threatened to sue Citizen tv, Kameme fm, and K24 for airing a doctored video.

Citizen tv digital has finally offered a statement of apology to the senator and even deleted the article they wrote about it. After establishing that the first video has been manipulated.

We apologize for sharing a video purported to be from a Senate session where Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata was alleged to have logged in from Sabina Joy. We have since established that the video had been manipulated. Here is the real video…
