Mombasa blogger and political activist Bruce John Khajira, known as Chawa 001, says his life is at risk.
Bruce Kajira reports that the Witness Protection Agency (WPA) left him exposed in Nyali after court proceedings. He has been under witness protection since the case began in 2024.
Bruce Kajira, a critic of Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Sheriff Nassir, was attacked on September 12, 2024, shortly after posting on special media speaking out on county fund embezzlement.
Over 20 men on motorbikes forced their way into his house. They abducted Bruce Kajira and subjected him to a brutal sexual assault, of which they recorded sodomizing him and posted the videos on social media.
He suffered severe physical and mental injuries, including losing twenty-eight teeth in the attack. He now has only four teeth.
Police arrested at least four suspects. They were charged with abduction and gang rape/sodomy.
After testifying and naming powerful figures, Bruce Kajira was placed under the WPA. He was moved several times. First to Kakamega for a week. Then to Nairobi for a month. Later to Embu, in Kangaru, Manyatta Constituency. At first, he says witness care officers treated him well.
In Embu, the situation changed. Household items were bought in his name. The list included a television, a fridge, and a blender. He was told these belonged to him. He later felt misled and unprotected.

There was also a suspected poisoning attempt in Embu. A handler took Bruce Kajira for a late breakfast in town. He ate ugali and chicken. He asked for black currant soda.
The drink was not available at the eatery and was sourced from outside. After the meal, he returned to his safe house. He developed sharp stomach pains. He was rushed to Embu Level 5 Hospital, where medics treated him for food poisoning.
About a week before this report, he was removed from the Embu safe house. He was moved to the Coast to testify and placed under WPA care in Mombasa. After appearing in court, he was left in Nyali without protection. He is now in hiding, hosted by a good Samaritan.
Bruce also says a promised dental reconstruction has not happened. He is still waiting for corrective treatment.
This is his situation today, severe injuries, limited dental function, and constant fear. He cooperated with the justice system. He moved as directed. He testified. He now reports being exposed and in danger.
