Days after its indefinite closure, the Anti-counterfeit authority reveals that it conducted a raid at China Square on Feb 16th.

China Square Mall has in the past few days made headlines with allegations of unfair business practices.

The Anti-Counterfeit Authority on Tuesday revealed that it seized counterfeited goods worth Sh50 million at China Square Mall over a week ago.

The authority said in a statement the seizure followed a complaint over the branding of the goods with “Finder”, the registered trademark of M/s Smithmo Company Limited.

The goods include hardware materials and tools owned by the brand owner.

“ACA received a formal complaint regarding “FINDER branded tools” from M/s Smithmo Company Ltd, who holds the registered trademark of “FINDER” in Kenya,” the statement read in part.

The Authority clarified that the raid was in fact conducted on February 16, in which hardware tools worth millions were recovered.

“In-situ seizures of goods with an approximate value of Ksh50 million owned by the brand owner occurred. The Authority takes the protection of intellectual property rights and fair trade practices seriously,” ACA stated.

The Authority said that it is committed to fulfilling its mandate of protecting intellectual property rights and promoting fair trade practices in Kenya.

It encouraged the registration of trademarks, patents, copyrights, and designs, which provides legal protection to the owners and creates incentives for further innovation.
