ACTIVIST EDWIN KIAMA RELEASED UNCONDITIONALLY

Two weeks ago, Kenyan activist Edwin Kiama was arrested over posters of the President and his deputy that were doing rounds on social media.

So the posters were being used in the online campaign against the approval of a sh 255 billion loan for Kenya from the IMF.

Edwin released on cash bail

Later on Edwin Kiama was released on a cash bail of 500k and a surety of a similar amount.

Kiama was also required to report to the investigating officer at a place of their choice for ten days. And ensure while observance of the Covid 19 protocols.

During the hearing of his case on 20th April, Edwin was released unconditionally. Because the prosecution failed to provide sufficient evidence to charge him for cyber-crime offenses.

Article 19 Eastern Africa and Amnesty International Kenya had condemned the arrest of Kiama and his bail terms.

Because according to them the terms were harsh. And it was also the second time in ten months that Edwin was being targeted for his social media activism. And expressing himself on political and transparency rights issues.
