Kenyan artist Sofiya Nzau and Brazilian music producer Matheas Zerbibi Massa, widely known as Zerb, have recently unveiled the highly anticipated music video for their collaborative track, “Mwaki.” The mesmerizing visuals were shot at the picturesque Hell’s Gate National Park in Naivasha, providing a stunning backdrop to the fusion of Kenyan and Brazilian musical influences.

“Mwaki” lyrics describe the poignant story of a young woman facing whose strict father disapproves of her relationship. The verses depict the emotional turmoil and conflict arising from societal expectations. The Kikuyu language adds authenticity, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. As the narrative progresses, readers can expect the father to become enraged and to feel devastated for both her father and herself. The refrain of the song, implies that the young man will eventually need to relocate.

Since its release, “Mwaki” has rapidly ascended global music charts, making its mark on platforms such as Shazam’s TOP 200 GLOBAL Popular Songs and Spotify’s Global Viral 50. And the song has garnered attention not only for its infectious beat but also for its distinctive connection to Nzau’s Kikuyu language. The song’s catchy lyrics have resonated with people from various cultural backgrounds, creating a universal appeal that transcends borders.
Sofiya Nzau to Benefit from “Mwaki”

Though initially wholly attributed to Zerb, Sofiya Nzau explained to her Kenyan fans that she and Zerb had an agreement that saw her take in parts of the proceeds of the Electronic Dance Music genre-hitsong.
“We have an agreement to make sure I benefit from the song and its success financially which I’m truly grateful to Zerb and his team,”
Sofiya Nzau stated.
