Renowned Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu, is set to be laid to rest on June 28, 2024. The date comes three months after the 63 year old passed away on March 2 after suffering a cardiac arrest. Before he died, Mr. Ibu had a blood clot in his leg due to diseased blood vessels, resulting in seven surgeries, one of which included an amputation of the leg.

The announcement of the burial date came from Mr. Ibu’s Elder brother Sunday Okafor, who explained that the delay in the burial is to accord the actor a heroic sendoff.
In a statement jointly signed by the family and the burial committee members, it was revealed that Mr. Ibu will be buried at his home in his hometown, Amuri, in the Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State.
“The Okafor family in Eziokwe Amuri, Nkanu West LGA in Enugu State wishes to honour the loving memory of our hero and legend John Ikechukwu Okafor who even in death has left a legacy of love, laughter, and liveliness,” the statement expressed.

The burial ceremony will span five days, commencing on Tuesday, June 25 with a high-profile novelty match. This will be followed by “Mr. Ibu’s Night” on Wednesday, June 26, featuring a candlelight procession and live entertainment.
A Christian Wake-Keep will be held on June 27 at his Nkanu West home, while the funeral service will take place on June 28.
The burial festivities will conclude on Sunday, June 30 with a Church Thanksgiving for family members, friends, and well-wishers.
Mr. Ibu gained fame 20 years ago with his role in the Nigerian comedy “Mr. Ibu,” which became his nickname. He appeared in over 200 Nollywood films, including those from the “Mr. Ibu” series.
Mr Ibu Family Drama
Mr. Ibu’s illness and subsequent passing were not without drama. His children, Oyeabuchi Daniel Okafor and Jasmine Chioma Okekeagwu, were arrested for allegedly defrauding him of N55 million. They manipulated his wife, hacked his bank, and planned to flee Nigeria. They face charges of conspiracy and theft.

The day after Nollywood actor John Okafor, aka Mr. Ibu, died, his adopted daughter Jasmine changed his TikTok account name to hers, @LadyJasminec_live. This move caused a lot of criticism.
