A wave of grief has hit Nzaatani Village in Mwingi West, Kitui County, after three members of a respected family were found dead in their home in Saika Estate, Nairobi. The deceased are Justus Wambua Kavyu, his wife Tabitha Kathini Wambua, and their daughter Stacey Kiluti Wambua. Police are treating the deaths as suspicious and are investigating the exact cause.
Reports indicate that Justus had endured a personal tragedy two years ago when he lost one of his children to cancer. Heartbroken, he returned to his village in Nzaatani, Kitui County, to focus on farming, while his wife and daughter stayed in Saika. When he recently visited them, he was confronted by their lifeless bodies. How the deaths occurred remains unclear.
The police are also investigating whether it is a murder-suicide.
For several days, the bodies went unnoticed until neighbours noticed a foul smell and investigated. The shocking discovery has unsettled both the Saika community and the Wambuas’ rural home, where the family was known for being warm, close-knit, and respected.
Justus is remembered as a loving husband and devoted father. He was the son of the late Wellington Kavyu Munyasya and Naomi Kiluti Kavyu of Nzaatani, Migwani. He leaves behind eight siblings and a grieving extended family. Tabitha was mourned as a gentle and caring mother, while Stacey was remembered as a kind-hearted daughter who helped those around her.
Detectives from Njiru Sub-County are working to piece together the family’s final hours. They are examining the house, analysing phone and digital data, tracing movements, and interviewing neighbours. Police are exploring whether domestic issues, mental health struggles, or other factors may have contributed to the tragedy.
Preparations for the family’s funeral are underway. The cortege will leave KU Funeral Home on Saturday, November 22, for burial at their ancestral home in Nzaatani Village, Migwani, Kitui County.
