A U.S. TikToker and influencer, Brenay Kennard, has been fined Ksh226 million (USD 1.75 million) for allegedly seducing her married boss.
A North Carolina jury ruled that her relationship with her manager, Timothy Montague, contributed to the breakdown of his marriage. The verdict awarded his ex-wife, Akira Montague, Ksh195 million (USD 1.5 million) for alienation of affection and Ksh32 million (USD 250,000) for criminal conversation.
The case began in May 2024. Akira Montague claimed Kennard befriended her to gain information about Timothy. She alleged Kennard then used this to pursue and seduce him. The lawsuit described flirtatious messages, meetings, and other interactions while Timothy was still married. Akira said the relationship caused her emotional pain and deprived her children of a two-parent household.

Kennard denied wrongdoing. She argued the verdict was unfair and did not reflect the full context. She said she plans to challenge the ruling.
The case brought attention because North Carolina is one of the few U.S. states where “alienation of affection” and “criminal conversation” claims are still allowed. These legal actions let a spouse seek damages from someone believed to interfere in a marriage.
Public reactions were divided. Some blamed Timothy for his choices. Others supported Akira, saying the award recognized the harm caused. Legal experts note that such cases require proof that a third party’s actions directly caused the loss of affection, which the jury found Kennard had done.
The ruling has sparked online discussion about social media, relationships, and accountability. For Akira, it was a confirmation of the harm she suffered. For Kennard, it is a major legal and financial setback.
