“THEY INFLUENCED THE VOTERS TO VOTE US OUT USING FACE MASKS!” JEREMIAH KIONI CLAIMS

Jubilee Party secretary-general Jeremiah Kioni on Wednesday claimed that the August 9 elections in Mt. Kenya were rigged by the use of face masks.

This comes days after he disclosed the reason behind the absence of Azimio coalition agents in some polling stations, specifically in the Mount Kenya region.

In his statement, Kioni said that agents representing the Raila Odinga-led coalition were frustrated and kept waiting for hours before being given access to the polling stations.

He added that in some areas, their agents were completely turned away on the grounds their appointment letters lacked stamps. “All our agents, especially in Mount Kenya, were denied access to polling stations up to 10 am. The reason given was that their letters of appointment were not stamped. Even after intervening with the top leaders and instructed to have them,” Kioni alleged.

Face masks rigging

Speaking on Inooro TV, Jeremiah Kioni revealed how senior Independent and Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) staffers wore facemasks and campaigned for UDA inside voting halls.

As a result, he warned Mt Kenya residents that they would gravely regret the mistake of selling their political soul to a very ill-informed choice.

Jeremiah KIoni said that “we have secured intelligence reports that all senior Independent and Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) wore face masks that aided them to campaign for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidates inside the voting halls. When you have a face mask on, your lips cannot be seen and the voice is stifled. They influenced the voters to vote us out,” he said. And added that voting in many parts of Mt Kenya happened in the dead of night “like the practice of witchcraft as opposed to the time from 6am to 5pm stipulated by the law”.

Kioni claimed that the evidence of electoral malpractice in the Mt. Kenya region will be shocking. “We are profiling the IEBC officers who presided over the elections. It employed people from one community and related friends and families. The things that our petitions in the governor, senator, woman rep, parliamentary and MCA seats will expose will shock you,” he said. And also accused religious leaders of “being more poisonous than politicians “.

What are your thoughts on Kioni’s sentiments?
