Former KTN news anchor Michael Oyier, who passed away on April 20, 2024, will be laid to rest on May 1st in Homa Bay County, according to an announcement by the funeral committee.
To honor his memory, a requiem mass will be held on April 29 at the All Saints Cathedral Church in Nairobi. This service will provide an opportunity for friends, family, and relatives to pay their final respects to the departed journalist.
Ahead of the funeral, a fundraiser is scheduled for April 26 at All Saints Cathedral. The aim is to offset the hospital bill left behind by Oyier and to cover other funeral expenses.
Oyier, survived by two daughters, was known for his contributions to both journalism and public relations. He began his career at KTN before transitioning to PR and later becoming an MC at various events.
After a successful stint at Standard Group as an anchor and presenter for nine years, Oyier shifted his focus to counseling and executive leadership coaching until his passing.

In a statement released by Oyier’s family and friends, they invited the wider community to share fond memories and condolences on a dedicated page, emphasizing Oyier’s gentle nature and his roles as a husband, brother, uncle, and friend.
“We, the family and friends of Michael, have opened this page to reach the wider community of friends and relatives to enable you to share fond memories, and condolences and to receive updates regarding the funeral arrangements,” The family stated.
“Mike, the ever gentlemen, was a husband, a brother, an uncle and a friend to many. Feel free to share your condolences and fond memories and even pictures of our beloved Michael on this page as we keep his memory alive,”.
As preparations for his final farewell continue, those who knew and cherished Oyier are encouraged to join in celebrating his life and legacy.
