AMREF has released the names of its Flying Doctors crew members who died during the Mwihoko Plane Crash on Thursday, August 7.
The four died when their Cessna Citation 560 ambulance aircraft went down near Mwihoko Secondary School, directly opposite Ngatho AIPCA Church.
The plane was flying to Hargeisa, Somalia. And it struck several houses, causing fires and destroying property.
Residents reported hearing a loud explosion followed by thick smoke.
The crash killed everyone on board and several people on the ground. Emergency responders and locals worked together to put out the fire and help victims.
Days later, AMREF Flying Doctors shared the names, careers, and personal qualities of the crew members.
Captain Muthuka Munuve

Muthuka had been with AMREF Flying Doctors for six years and nine months.
He served as both captain and check pilot on the Cessna Citation XLS and the Pilatus PC‐12. With over 10,000 flight hours, he was known for calm precision and a strong commitment to safety.
“He led every mission with the highest standard of airmanship,” AMREF said.
Captain Brian Kimani Miaro

Brian had served for three years and nine months.
He was an instructor captain on the Pilatus PC‐12 and was training to become a check pilot. He had 5,800 flight hours. He is remembered for his exceptional skill, professionalism, and dedication to every mission.
Dr. Charles Mugo Njoroge

Charles worked with AMREF Flying Doctors for seven years and eight months.
As a medical doctor, he brought healing and hope to patients in their most critical moments. His compassion and expertise left a lasting impact on every life he touched.
Nurse Jane Rispah Aluoch Omusula

Jane, from Butere in Kakamega County, was the only nurse on the ill-fated flight. She had served for four years and eight months as an emergency flight nurse. AMREF described her as courageous, compassionate, and steady under pressure.
Beyond her work, Jane loved travelling and playing golf. Friends say she had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed exploring new places. Her warm personality and courage brought comfort and hope to countless patients and joy to those who knew her.
The Mwihoko crash has left a deep wound in the AMREF community and among residents of the neighbourhood. May the four rest in peace.
