Police in Murang’a are investigating after a taxi driver delivered a dead woman’s body to Kangari Police Station disguised as a parcel.

The driver said he was ferrying passengers from Makomboki Centre to Kangari Township on Wednesday, September 24, when a man wearing a black hoodie and jeans stopped him. The man asked him to deliver a package to Kangari Stage. He said someone would collect it for onward transport to Nairobi. The man paid the driver in cash and pretended to call the recipient.

When the driver arrived, no one came to collect the parcel. He and a passenger noticed it was unusually heavy and tightly wrapped. Suspicious, they took it to the police station. Police unwrapped the package and found the body of a woman between 45 and 50 years old, wrapped in blankets and packed inside paper bags. She was dressed in a red dress without undergarments. A blazer with the logo of Gatanga CCM Secondary School was also found.

Police later identified the woman as Hannah Wanjiku, a 53-year-old mother of six.

Her sister, Mary Kiiru, said Wanjiku had left her matrimonial home in Mairi three months earlier due to gender-based violence. She rented a house in Njiru Village and worked as a casual labourer in tea fields.

The police have arrested four suspects in connection with the case; the taxi driver, two of Wanjiku’s sons, and her estranged husband. Investigations are ongoing to determine what happened.

The body was taken to AIC Githumu Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
