Senator Tabitha Karanja’s son, Edward Muigai, is on a mission to restore Keroche Breweries back to its former glory. The company was once a leader in Kenya’s brewing industry but faced tough challenges in recent years. Now, Muigai is stepping in with new ideas and determination to revive it.

“It had to be done,” Muigai said. “We couldn’t let a billion-dollar business fall apart. This company represents years of hard work and sacrifice. Reviving it will also create jobs for thousands of talented Kenyans.”

Why Did Keroche Breweries Shut Down?

Keroche Breweries faced a series of issues that led to its closure in December 2021 and again in June 2022. The company struggled to meet its tax obligations, accumulating a debt of over KSh 9 billion owed to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA). This led to repeated tax disputes, with the KRA shutting down the company’s operations multiple times.

Keroche also faced financial difficulties due to disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Reduced sales during the pandemic period hurt the company’s cash flow, making it harder to pay creditors and employees. The combination of these challenges forcing it to shut down temporarily.

Legal battles further compounded the problems. The company faced multiple court cases, including those related to its tax disputes and liquidation threats from creditors. These legal challenges drained resources and stalled any efforts to recover.

Now that these issues are reportedly resolved, Muigai is taking bold steps to rebuild the company.

Edward Muigai’s Brilliant Plan to Revive Keroche

On January 15, Muigai launched a plan to provide jobs for young Kenyans. Thousands of people came for interviews at Keroche’s offices in Westlands. The recruitment drive will run until March 15 and aims to find the best talent from all over the country.

The new Keroche will also use digital technology to improve operations. An online platform will connect employees, distributors, and partners, making things run more smoothly. This will make it easier to manage sales, deliveries, and the business overall.

The workers, called “Digital Activators,” will help onboard clients, work with distributors, and teach consumers about the new Keroche.

Keroche’s revival will create jobs, inspire innovation, and restore one of Kenya’s most famous brands.
