Matatu Sacco Super Metro is on the spot after a tragic incident on Thika Road, where a passenger, Gilbert Thuo Kimani, lost his life over a fare dispute.

Gilbert was in a Super Metro matatu, registration number KDL 125N, heading to Kahawa Wendani. Witnesses say he argued with the conductor over KSh 30.

The conductor demanded KSh 80, but Gilbert only had KSh 50. The argument escalated as the matatu kept moving.

Passengers claim the conductor, in anger, opened the door and pushed Gilbert out. He fell onto the road and was run over by the same vehicle, dying on the spot.

A postmortem confirmed multiple fractures, including broken ribs, arms, and legs. The incident has sparked outrage, with Kenyans condemning matatu crew recklessness. Many are calling for justice and stricter transport regulations.

What did Super Metro Say?

Super Metro has denied any wrongdoing.

A company representative, Mr. Muturi, claims Gilbert tried to alight from the moving vehicle and lost his footing.

He argued that if Gilbert had been pushed, he would have landed further away. Despite this, public pressure is mounting for action.

Police have launched an investigation, with calls for the conductor and driver to be arrested if found responsible. Gilbert’s family in Kandara, Murang’a County, is mourning and demanding justice. They urge the government to act against rogue matatu crews to prevent similar tragedies.
