The National Police Service has announced that sixteen suspects have finally been arrested after a disturbing video of boda boda riders sexually harassing a female motorist emerged.
I’m in utter shock and dismay as I write this article. A very disturbing video has been widely shared online showing boda boda riders attacking a lady.
It is alleged that the female motorist may have caused an accident involving her and the lunatics. Boda boda riders have since time immemorial been reported for their mannerless behavior. So this was in no way an isolated case.
In the video, the imbeciles are seen undressing the woman while others were scampering for a chance to touch her breasts. The traumatized woman was screaming helplessly. Other men around the scene were heard demanding that the woman be brought outside. Maybe so that they could sexually assault her easily? While another guy was seen taking her car key so that she doesn’t drive.
Uproar
The video has caused an uproar on all social media platforms. Celebrities, artists, activists, and fellow Kenyans have vehemently condemned the actions seen in the video.
Popular activist Njeri Migwi expressed her shock asking that justice be served. A young woman today was accosted by motorbike riders on Forest road, you can see them actually groping and rough handling her. We have as a country allowed boda bodas to be a law unto themselves. Her screams of terror and fear are a telling story of how we invalidate women,” Wa Migwi Tweeted.
A lot of netizens complained that the National Police Service acts immediately. Taking to its official Twitter account, NPS terming the video as distasteful said that they were already hunting down the suspects.
“Our attention has been drawn to a distasteful video circulating on social media of boda boda riders attacking a motorist after an alleged road traffic accident. The rowdy gang went ahead and stripped the lady off her clothes. The matter is under active investigations. We have since identified some of the perpetrators and they will be presented before a court of law upon completion of investigations.
read the statement.
16 arrested
In the recent development of this nerve-wracking story, Nairobi Traffic Commandant has announced that sixteen suspects were already arrested. And detained at Parklands Police Station as investigations continued.
It was also disclosed that the incident took place on Friday, March 4th. And that police officers who were around the scene rescued the shaken woman.
Our officers rushed to save this motorist. They dragged her to the back seat and one of our officers drove her away, said Mr. Omukata.
The commandant also disclosed that the poor woman sustained fractures on the leg. And is currently undergoing treatment at Kiambu Level 4 hospital.
What do you think the government should do to curb sexual assault and harassments by boda boda riders?
What they are currently doing :the crack down is good, let them use this to bring order in that unruly industry
