Serah Teshna Free Birth Experience in Canada

In a video posted on TikTok, Serah Teshna explained that from her first doctor’s appointment to the day she gave birth, she did not pay for any medical services. Everything was covered under Canada’s public healthcare system.
She said she went for twelve prenatal appointments without paying any consultation fees. She also got several tests and treatments for free, including a glucose test, a cervical screening, four blood tests, and all her ultrasound scans.
Serah also received the D Tap vaccine, which protects the mother and baby from diphtheria, tetanus, and whooping cough. All these services were fully covered.
The only thing she had to pay for was hospital parking, which cost her 25 Canadian dollars, about KSh 2,360.
Her video got many reactions online. Some people shared their own experiences of getting free maternity care in other countries. Others compared her story to Kenya’s current healthcare situation. Many users said they missed programs like Linda Mama, which used to help pregnant women in Kenya but are no longer working as well.
Some people praised former First Lady Margaret Kenyatta for supporting women’s health and said they wished current leaders would do the same.
