Drama is brewing at Safaricom after a junior employee was reportedly fired for fighting a senior manager who allegedly touched his wife inappropriately during a company event.
The ugly scene is said to have unfolded in front of shocked colleagues when the senior manager, reportedly drunk, got too close and “handsy” with the employee’s wife.
Enraged, the junior staff confronted him, and the argument quickly turned into a physical fight.
A few days later, instead of addressing the manager’s behavior, the company allegedly dismissed the junior staff on grounds of indiscipline.
He now insists the decision was rushed, unfair, and meant to silence him.
The dismissed worker says he has been pleading with Employee Relations Manager, Odhiambo Ooko, for justice but claims his efforts have been ignored. He even accuses Ooko of fabricating stories to block any chance of appeal.
Feeling cornered, the disgruntled employee has gone public, accusing Safaricom of protecting senior bosses while punishing those who stand up for themselves.
The scandal has cast a harsh spotlight on Safaricom, once accused of sharing protesters’ information with the DCI. This has raised questions about fairness, accountability, and how far management will go to shield their own.
