President Ruto has donated Sh2 million to the family of Albert Ojwang’, who died in police custody earlier this month.

Albert, the only child of Meshack Ojwang’, was arrested at their rural home in Homa Bay on June 7. And he later died in police custody in Nairobi after being beaten and strangled.

The donation was delivered by Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga during a visit to the family’s home on June 16. She said the President personally called the family to offer his condolences.

“The President called and condoled with you and your wife, and shared how deeply pained he is as a father. Today, he has sent us with Sh2 million,” Wanga told Albert’s father.

Albert Ojwang: 3 Bedroom House Pledge

Along with the donation, Governor Wanga pledged to build a three-bedroom house for Mzee Ojwang’. She said the family deserved a decent place to live, especially after such a heartbreaking loss.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga also called Mzee Ojwang’ from abroad to offer his condolences.

Governor Wanga called for swift action to bring those responsible for Albert’s death to justice. She said there should be no sacred cows and urged authorities to act quickly.

And Deputy Inspector General Lagat, who was the complainant in Albert’s case has stepped aside from his duties.

Albert’s father thanked the leaders for standing with his family.

“I thank the President and Raila for reaching out and supporting us,” he said.

The family is still in mourning. As they wait for answers, they hope justice will be served.
