POLICE ASKING FOR FUEL IS NOT CORRUPTION: MURKOMEN

Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen has defended police officers who ask the public for fuel when responding to emergencies.

Murkomen, who once ordered police to shoot protesters to kill, explained that every police vehicle is allocated 450 litres of fuel per month. This, he said, is not enough to cover operational needs, especially in urban areas.

Many stations run out of fuel before the end of the month. This can leave officers unable to respond to distress calls unless additional support is provided. Murkomen emphasized that these requests are not acts of corruption.

The government is reviewing the current arrangement. There are proposals to increase the monthly allocation to 650 litres per vehicle. Murkomen said this will help officers respond more efficiently and cover larger areas.

He also warned chiefs against handling defilement and gender-based violence cases in kangaroo courts. Such practices are illegal and harmful. Chiefs found shielding perpetrators or mishandling cases will be dismissed and prosecuted.

Murkomen urged Kenyans to cooperate with police officers to strengthen justice and community safety. He said public support is especially important in cases involving children and other vulnerable groups.
