Rapper and musician Nyashinski recently sent a stern warning to Tecno Kenya amidst their escalating legal battle.

“Your time is up. You have caused me enough distress. I want to make sure I’m the last person you will EVER mess with. Itakuwa funzo,” Nyashiski’s Instastory stated.

Nyashinski and Tecno Kenya Legal Battle

Nyashinski and Tecno Kenya’s legal battle stems from a dispute involving Nigerian producer Sam Eliapenda Jedidah, known as Sam Eli, and a copyright infringement case.

It all began with a multi-million endorsement deal Nyashinski struck with Tecno Kenya Limited to be the Brand Ambassador for the Tecno Camon 20 series in May 2023.

But Sam Eli accused Nyashinski of using a song he made, called “Wach Wach,” to advertise the phone without compensating him properly.

Sam Eli argued that, as the song’s producer, he deserves 50 percent of the proceeds from the endorsement deal. However, his attempts to negotiate with Nyashinski have been fruitless.

Nyashinski countered, stating that he was unaware of the obligation to inform Sam Eli about the song’s usage by Tecno, maintaining his ownership of 100 percent of the master rights.

In his defense, Nyashinski emphasized that the lawsuit against him is unfounded, targeting non-parties, and urged the court to dismiss it with associated costs.

He clarified, “The plaintiff owns 50% publishing rights to the song Wach Wach. GETA International Company Limited is not a party to this suit,”

Furthermore, Nyashinski argued that his contract with Tecno encompasses more than just publishing rights, including image rights, appearances, and social media associations.

In March 2024, the court ordered Nyashinski to present contract documents related to the Tecno endorsement deal. His defense team sought additional time to provide them.
