Nonini has emerged victorious in his legal battle against social media influencer Brian Mutinda and Syinix Electronics.
The recent court ruling at the Milimani Commercial Court in Nairobi awarded Nonini more after the earlier Sh1 million judgment was set aside.

The dispute started when Nonini discovered that Mutinda had used a significant portion of his hit song, “We Kamu,” in a promotional video for Syinix Electronics without permission.
Nonini found out about the unauthorized use while scrolling through social media. Naturally, he was upset and argued that his intellectual property was being exploited.

Nonini Initial Judgement Revised
Initially, the court had awarded Nonini Sh1 million in damages. However, this decision was overturned due to the defendants’ failure to appear in court.
But the case was recently reopened, and the court revisited the evidence.
In the trial, Nonini’s legal team argued that Mutinda’s use of the song was not a fair use.

The video in question was played in Court as evidence, showing Mutinda using the song in a commercial setting.
The court deemed this use a substantial infringement of Nonini’s copyright.
The court ruled in favor of Nonini, finding Mutinda and Syinix Electronics jointly liable for copyright infringement.
Nonini was awarded Sh4 million in general damages, in addition to the costs of the suit and interest.
Nonini celebrated the ruling as a significant win for artists and a strong statement against the unauthorized use of intellectual property. He thanked the court for defending his rights and setting a clear precedent for similar cases in the future.
