New information has surfaced about the tragic accident involving a brand-new Range Rover and an Isuzu Canter truck on the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway.
The crash occurred at Maji ya Chumvi, a stre tch known for frequent accidents.
The Range Rover was a recent import from the United Kingdom and still had temporary number plates.
The owner had just cleared it at the port, along with another new red car.
After purchasing both vehicles, the owner took his family on vacation to Mombasa. On their way back to Nairobi, he drove one of the cars, a luxury sedan, while instructing his driver, Jamal Mubarak, to drive the Range Rover.
Contrary to rumors that Mubarak was in the car with the owner’s side chic, the car owner’s family confirmed that he was actually traveling with their house help.
The Range Rover Accident
Jamal, 37, was at the wheel when the crash happened.
According to police reports, he was driving at a very high speed and attempting to carelessly overtake another vehicle when he collided head-on with an Isuzu FRR Canter truck.
The Canter, driven by 58-year-old Stanley Maina, was transporting grain to Mombasa.
The impact of the collision was severe.
The Canter flipped over from the force, while the Range Rover was completely written off.
Both Jamal and the 29-year-old househelp in the Range Rover died instantly.
Stanley Maina, the truck driver, survived but sustained serious injuries.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, but the damage was already done.
Authorities have urged drivers to be cautious, especially in high-risk areas like Maji ya Chumvi.
