Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has for the first time confirmed that Kenyan activists Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo were arrested and detained in Uganda. The two men had been missing for 38 days before their release.
Eyewitnesses reported last month that the activists were forced into a car by masked uniformed men after attending a political event supporting opposition leader Bobi Wine. Until Museveni’s statement, Ugandan authorities had denied detaining them.

In a live interview, Museveni described the activists as “experts in riots” and said they were put “in the fridge for some days.”
He blamed foreign groups for stirring unrest and warned that troublemakers in Uganda would face consequences.
The two were released after ex-President Uhuru Kenyatta intervened. And they arrived in Nairobi on Saturday and were greeted by supporters at the main airport.
“Thirty-eight days of abduction was not easy. We didn’t think we were going to come out alive because we were being abducted by the military,” Njagi said.
Opposition figure Bobi Wine criticized the Ugandan government for targeting the two Kenyans and questioned why they were not formally charged in court if they had committed an offense.
