More victims have come forward with disturbing stories following the murder of University of Nairobi student, Jane Atila, who was killed after her family failed to raise Ksh.1,500 in ransom.

Mutua allegedly demanded Ksh.2,500 from Jane’s family on the night she disappeared. Her brother, Patrick Mwangale, sent Ksh.1,000, promising to send the rest later. Before he could, Jane was killed. Her decomposing body was discovered in KEFRI forest on October 17.

The main suspect, Nicholas Mutua Mutia, is already in police custody. He is accused of abducting, robbing, and sexually assaulting several women inside KEFRI forest in Kikuyu, Kiambu County, where Jane’s body was later found.

Two women recorded their statements at Kikuyu Police Station, claiming Mutua attacked them in the same forest. They said he threatened to kill them and demanded money.

“He told me, ‘You won’t leave this place. Do you know how many people I’ve killed? How much blood I’ve drunk? Your day is today.’ He only wanted money,” one of the victims told Citizen TV.

Another survivor said she was forced to give her M-Pesa PIN but managed to escape after being beaten.

“That day, I didn’t have the phone with money. He got angry and attacked me, but somehow I survived,” she said.

Police say the women’s testimonies are now part of the evidence against Mutua, and they have urged others with similar experiences to come forward.

Police have since arrested two more suspects linked to the murder. Investigators say they are determined to uncover how many victims Mutua may have targeted.
