From the beginning, rumors circulated that the police had mistakenly apprehended the wrong peddler in the Mathe wa Ngara narcotics syndicate. Teresiah Wanjiru, a food vendor running a hotel, was arrested instead of the actual culprit. At the time of Ms. Wanjiru’s arrest, the real Mathe wa Ngara remained elusive.

“Sasa naona ni kama wanafix mama yangu kwa hii story. (I suspect that the police wrongly fixed my mother into the Mathe wa Ngara case.”

Teresia Wanjiru’s son told NTV Kenya.

According to NTV, following news of the drug raid, residents of Ngara near Mathe wa Ngara’s shop fled. However, Teresia Wanjiru was unable to flee as she had to close shop. This is how she crossed paths with the police who arrested her for allegedly being Mathe wa Ngara’s accomplice.

“When we heard news of the drug bust, everyone fled. But Teresia could not flee as she did not want to leave her food and business unattended. So, the police arrested her in connection with the drugs crime.”

Dennis Ngotho stated.

Additionally, the real Mathe wa Ngara brazenly contacted Teresia Wanjiru while she was wrongly incarcerated. Nancy Kigunzu called Teresia via a police officer’s phone. And apologized for the mix-up adding that they would meet in court.
