Machakos University’s main campus has been closed indefinitely following student unrest. This is due to increased cases of insecurity and the shooting of one student Tuesday. A police officer was arrested for allegedly shooting and seriously injuring a Machakos University student.
So the University’s Vice-Chancellor Lucy Irungu in a memo released Wednesday instructed all the students to vacate the Machakos-based institution with immediate effect.
The VC said, the decision was reached during a special meeting convened by the university management Wednesday morning, where the board resolved to close down the varsity for security reasons until further notice.
The closure comes after one student who was shot Tuesday during street battle with police succumbed Wednesday morning at a Machakos hospital.
The document dated December 7, 2022 was signed by the vice-chancellor.
“This is therefore, to inform all students to vacate the university premises with immediate effect. Further communication will be made in due course, ” Irungu stated.
The university students went on a rampage for the third record time on Wednesday protesting their colleague’s death.
