In her post, Zawadi admitted that sharing her truth was not easy.

She said she had been afraid for a long time but finally decided it was time.

“I’ve been too afraid to do this for way too long! But this morning I woke up and said enough! This has been a long time coming!” she wrote, calling it “probably the scariest thing I’ve ever done.”

Many people praised Zawadi for being brave, especially in Kenya where being LGBTQ+ is still difficult.

In 2017, Zawadi Nyong’o opened up about being sexually abused by a family member when she was only 12 years old.

Zawadi is known for her work in social justice and women’s rights. She founded Zero by Zawadi, a platform that focuses on sexual and reproductive health.

Her coming out marks a powerful moment for LGBTQ+ visibility in Kenya and sends a strong message about living truthfully and proudly.
