City lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu was shot dead on Tuesday, September 9, in the evening in Karen, Nairobi.
Police say Mbobu was attacked while driving home along Magadi Road. He was alone in the car. And was caught in traffic when two men on a motorcycle pulled up beside his car.
The attackers shattered his windshield and shot him at least three times in the chin before fleeing the scene. This attack is widely regarded as an assassination, but what is the motive?
His vehicle came to a stop less than a kilometer from the Galleria Mall. When officers arrived, they found his body slumped on the driver’s seat. The motive for the attack remains unknown.
Witnesses told police the gunmen sped off immediately after the shooting. Detectives have since launched investigations and are pursuing leads to trace the suspects.

A Career Spanning Nearly Three Decade
Mbobu earned an LL.B with Honours and an LL.M from Georgetown University, and was also a Certified Public Secretary (CPS-K) as well as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb) in both London and Kenya.

He was more than just a practicing lawyer. His career in law stretched close to 30 years, during which he worked as an advocate, academic, and governance expert.
He once served as the chairman of the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal, where he oversaw sensitive cases on party politics and leadership disputes.
At the same time, he was a law lecturer at the University of Nairobi, where he mentored upcoming lawyers and shared his expertise in constitutional and governance matters.
Colleagues describe him as a respected professional who combined academic knowledge with practical experience.
