Doctors aligned with the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU) are facing termination as the strike persists.

Dennis Miskellah, KMPDU’s Deputy Secretary General, revealed that he stopped receiving his salary 19 months ago and, despite assurances of reinstatement, received a termination letter due to his involvement in the strike.

“It’s okay, I know I have not done anything wrong. I have never been caught in any disciplinary issue, but you know that the price you have to pay for liberty is to be generally vigilant,” Miskellah remarked.

In a conversation with NTV, Miskellah emphasized the understanding among striking doctors that sacrifices are necessary to achieve their objectives.

“All doctors on strike know that to achieve our goals, we have to pay a price,” he asserted.

The recent Labor Court ruling mandates doctors to resume duties for emergency cases while discussions between their union and the government continue.

According to Justice Byram Ongaya of the Employment and Labour Relations Court in Nairobi, a minimum of two doctors from each professional rank must be present at hospitals categorized as levels III, IV, and V.
