A fire at the Kisii County Assembly that occurred on Friday 4th September afternoon, was said to have destroyed millions of money.

The incident was said to have spread only in the finance department.

As a result, investigations into the cause of the fire began.

Members of the Kisii County Assembly (MCA’s) were asked to stay away from the premises.

Ascertaining the incident was Kisii Governor James Ongwae. And he reported that the first response was by the county’s fire brigade who was on-site at the time of the incident.

However, the Governor also confirmed that no documents were damaged during the incident. Because the fire largely targeted the assembly’s debating arena.

So some reports indicated that at the time the fire started, Kisii County Assembly speaker David Kombo and assembly service board members were meeting the assembly forum officials. And several commissioners over issues that had been raised by nominated Members of the County Assembly.

When peaking to the media after the fire had been contained; Speaker David Kombo conveyed surprise that the County Assembly could be destroyed.

Because the electricity had been switched off for maintenance.

“Property worth milliions of shillings has been lost, the disaster however comes at a time the County Assembly has lined up motions to assist residents tackle COVID-19,” he said.

And when he visited the assembly to assess the damage, Governor James Ongwae urged the police to hasten their investigations. So that the cause of the inferno can be established.

I have ordered the Assembly to be sealed off. This is a big fire that needs serious investigations. I am requesting that we have experts to come and carry out investigations into this matter.
