It is now one year since world record-breaking marathoner Kelvin Kiptum tragically passed away in a tragic car crash.
While his memory remains alive, a battle over his wealth has left his family in limbo.

Kiptum’s estate, worth at least KSh200 million, remains frozen due to an ongoing dispute between his parents and his widow, Asenath Cheruto.
The late athlete’s earnings, which include sponsorship deals, prize money, and donations, have not been accessed by his immediate family.
Administrators appointed to oversee Kiptum’s estate include Athletics Kenya (AK) President Jack Tuwei, National Treasury Principal Secretary Chris Kiprop, and AK Vice President Jinaro Kibet.
They, along with government representatives and family members, were tasked with managing the funds. However, disagreements within the family have stalled the process.
Kiptum’s father, Samson Cheruiyot, claims that his son’s widow moved to Nairobi with her two children shortly after the burial. He also alleges that she may have received part of the funds, while the rest of the family has not benefited.
Kelvin Kiptum: Where is his Wife?
The widow of Kelvin Kiptum, Asenath Cheruto has chosen not to engage in the conflict publicly. Instead, she remains focused on raising her children.

With no resolution in sight, Kiptum’s millions remain locked away, leaving his loved ones in financial distress.
The coming months will determine if the dispute can be settled and if his family will finally access the wealth he left behind.
