In a powerful message to 2023 KCSE candidates, renowned CNN journalist Larry Madowo shared his own experience of overcoming academic setbacks and achieving success beyond the confines of a grade. Larry Madowo, who once faced the prospect of repeating Form 4 due to a B- in KCSE, is now a seasoned traveler with 45 foreign trips to 27 countries in just one year.
“I “failed” KCSE but I did 45 foreign trips last year – 27 countries. My B- in the national exam was so bad I was getting pushed to repeat Form 4! Mtu asikupimie hewa. (Let no one underestimate you.)”
He said.

His candid revelation serves as a reminder that a less-than-perfect academic performance does not define one’s future. Despite societal pressures and discouragement following his KCSE results, Larry Madowo went on to lead a life filled with diverse experiences that surpassed the expectations of conventional success.
“I went to so many places I got tired of doing this recap. Nobody will watch it to the end anyway.”
Larry Madowo stated.
2023 KCSE Results Overview
The recently released 2023 KCSE results revealed a varied distribution of grades among the 899,453 candidates. While 1,261 achieved the coveted A grade,

Education CS Ezekiel Machogu expressed his sadness over the 48,174 candidates who secured E grades.
“I am pained by the fact that 48,174 candidates still ended up scoring a mean grade of E in the 2023 KCSE Examination even after the Ministry used a more flexible system of computing the final overall candidate results.”
